Edible Frosting Sheet Ingredients

The food-safe "paper" your image is printed on

💡

Our premium edible frosting sheets (also called icing sheets or sugar sheets) are the substrate your custom image is printed onto. They are made entirely from food-grade ingredients — think of them as an edible canvas that sits on top of your frosting and blends seamlessly into the cake surface.

🍬
Sugar (Sucrose) Primary Structure The main ingredient. Gives the sheet its smooth, flexible body and a mild, pleasant sweetness that blends naturally with any frosting.
🌽
Corn Syrup Humectant · Flexibility Keeps the sheet soft and pliable. Prevents cracking or brittleness during storage and application, even in dry environments.
🥔
Modified Corn or Potato Starch Binder · Structure Acts as the structural binder giving the sheet its paper-like form and enabling it to hold the printed image without smearing.
💧
Water Solvent · Process Used during manufacturing to dissolve and blend ingredients into a smooth, even slurry before the sheet is formed and dried.
🌿
Glycerin (Glycerol) Humectant · Softness A food-safe, plant-derived humectant that keeps the sheet moist and flexible from production to application. Prevents it from drying out in the package.
🌾
Cellulose Gum Thickener · Stabilizer A plant-derived food thickener that improves texture consistency and gives the sheet a smooth, even surface ideal for high-resolution printing.
🌻
Vegetable Shortening Lubricant · Flexibility Usually soy- or palm-based. Adds pliability to the sheet and prevents sticking during the manufacturing process.
🧂
Sorbitol Sugar Alcohol · Moisture A naturally occurring sugar alcohol that regulates moisture levels within the sheet, keeping it soft without making it sticky or wet.
🍋
Citric Acid Preservative · pH Control A natural food-safe preservative derived from citrus fruits. Maintains pH balance and extends the sheet's shelf life without artificial preservatives.
Titanium Dioxide White Pigment · Base An FDA-approved white food colorant that gives the sheet its bright white base — this is what makes printed colors appear vivid, saturated, and true-to-life.
🌾

Gluten-Free Confirmed: Our frosting sheets contain corn or potato starch only — no wheat, rye, barley, or gluten-containing grains. Suitable for guests with gluten intolerance or sensitivity.

Edible Ink Ingredients

The food-grade CMYK ink that brings your image to life

🖨️

Our food-grade edible inks are loaded into professional inkjet printers dedicated exclusively to edible printing. They use the standard CMYK color system (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) — each a separate cartridge formulated with FDA-approved food colorings — to reproduce any image in full, vibrant color.

🎨
FD&C Certified Food Colorings Primary Pigment · CMYK FDA-approved synthetic dyes — Red 40, Blue 1, Yellow 5, Yellow 6 — form the four CMYK color channels that reproduce your full-color image with accuracy and vibrancy.
💧
Purified / Deionized Water Carrier Solvent The primary liquid carrier for the ink. Deionized to remove minerals that could clog print nozzles or cause inconsistency in color reproduction.
🌿
Glycerin (Glycerol) Humectant · Flow Agent Keeps edible ink from drying out inside cartridges and print heads. Ensures smooth, consistent ink flow and prevents nozzle blockages between printing sessions.
🍬
Sugar (Sucrose or Dextrose) Binder · Adhesion Helps the ink bond cleanly to the frosting sheet surface without bleeding, feathering, or spreading beyond intended pixel boundaries.
🧪
Propylene Glycol Viscosity Agent An FDA GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) food-grade solvent that adjusts ink viscosity to match inkjet print head requirements for consistent droplet formation.
🌱
Sorbitol Humectant · Stability Prevents the ink from drying in cartridge nozzles during storage and between printing sessions, maintaining cartridge performance over the full shelf life.
🍋
Citric Acid pH Stabilizer Regulates the ink's pH level to ensure color stability, prevent dye degradation, and maintain accurate color reproduction throughout the cartridge's lifespan.
🌸
Natural Colorants (select formulas) Optional · Natural Alternative Some of our ink formulations include beet extract (red), spirulina (blue-green), and turmeric (yellow) as natural alternatives to synthetic FD&C dyes. Ask us if you need natural ink.
🎨

CMYK Color System: Like all professional inkjet printing, edible images use four ink channels — Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black — that combine in microscopic droplets to reproduce the full visible color spectrum in your custom design.

Shelf Life & Storage

How to keep your edible topper fresh until you need it

01 📦

Store Flat & Sealed

Keep in the original sealed packaging, lying flat. Never fold or roll a frosting sheet — creases print marks won't disappear once applied.

02 🌡️

Room Temperature Only

Store between 60–75°F (15–24°C). Never refrigerate or freeze an unapplied edible topper — moisture destroys the sheet and image quality.

03 🌤️

Away from Light & Humidity

Keep away from direct sunlight, steam, and humid environments. A kitchen drawer or cupboard away from the oven is ideal.

04 📅

Use Within 12 Months

Printed toppers stay fresh for 6–12 months sealed. Unprinted frosting sheets last up to 24 months in ideal storage conditions.

05 🎂

Apply Close to Party Time

Apply the topper 12–24 hours before serving for best results. Once on the cake, avoid refrigerating as condensation can blur the image.

06 🚫

No Freezing Ever

Freezing an edible topper permanently damages the frosting sheet structure. The sheet will crack, curl, and the image will degrade upon thawing.
